10.1 Academic Search Engines

10.1.1 Google Scholar

You can perform a simple and intuitive literature search by going to scholar.google.com and searching like you would an ordinary Google search. Searching for fragments of the title, authors’ names, and publication year will often work if you have a particular paper in mind. Searching for a suitable paper without a particular one in mind will be a more challenging search, but still potentially worthwhile. Advanced (more specific) searches are available if simple searches do not work.

10.1.2 Other Search Engines

University of Washington students can use the UW Libraries website to search for books, articles, and other literature. Students at other institutions can often access similar functionality via their institution’s websites.
